We just received some very commonly asked questions about GROM VLine VL2 and VLite VT2 systems, and we decided to post the questions and our answers here.
1. Can you still use the other HDD/AUX devices, such as the built-in CD/HDD, AUX, iPod via USB, Bluetooth?
Answer: Your built-in stereo functions will keep working, except for the external CD changer. The VLine VL2 system uses the external CD changer mode of your stereo to take over it. The aftermarket devices, such as aftermarket Bluetooth add-ons, must be disconnected. Factory FM, cameras, etc, will keep working.
2. Can you use Android Auto for navigation while listening to a different audio source for music, such as FM or the built-in CD player? Will navigation in Android Auto interrupt the music with spoken directions?
Answer: Yes, you can use Android Auto for navigation while listening to the other stereo mode, such as FM radio. The navigation will not interrupt the music since the stereo is in the other mode. You need to be fully in Android Auto stereo mode/VLine mode and stream the music via Android Auto for navigation prompts to interrupt the music.
3. What would phone calls go through - the built-in BT or the GROM?
Answer: On the VLine VL2 system, the calls go through GROM for both CarPlay and Android Auto (on Android 12). If you are using the VLite VT2 system, the calls go through GROM via CarPlay, but for Android Auto, you need to use the factory BT.
4. Will there be software updates to the GROM unit, and how are they installed?
Answer: Yes, there are periodic software updates from GROM. They are being installed over-the-air, via Internet/Wi-Fi connection. To check for updates, connect the VLine VL2 / VLite VT2 system to the internet, go to Settings --> Check for Updates. You can also go to Support App --> Check for updates.

5. Can the system understand spoken commands, i.e. to talk to Google Assistant? How does that work - with the existing Voice button or some other way?
Answer: Yes, the system can understand voice commands and supports Android Auto Google Assistant. To activate the voice command, you press and hold the TRACK UP button on the steering wheel controls for 2-3 seconds.
6. Does the GROM unit use the existing car microphone, or does it have its own?
Answer: For some vehicles, the GROM VLine VL2 / VLite VT2 system uses the factory microphone. For the others, it uses the aftermarket microphone that is included with the system as part of the package. You can always check our install guide for details specific to your vehicle.
