  • NIS8 CarPlay Echo problem is so bad it makes phone calls near impossible

    Hello,

Been waiting for years for a GROM product with the line lite NIS8 feature to replace the stock infinity Bluetooth audio terrible microphone quality....

I just installed my NIS8 unit into a 2010 Infinity QX56 w/NAV. Phones are iPhone XR w/ios 15.5 using wireless carplay.

It seems all functionality is working as expected with the easy install except my #1 use case.. Making phone calls with clear audio.

when making a carplay call, the external caller get horrific echo so bad that you can't conduct a conversation. Flip it to infinity Bluetooth and other than the terrible mic quality, it works fine, and speakerphone on iPhone works fine.. However carplay calls (the default call method) are pretty much unusable. As of today, the softwar/firmware checks show I have the latest.

I've tried mic sensitive at all levels with different stereo and android volume levels. By the way the auto calibrate feature seem to fail 9/10 times despite VERY loud or normal or quiet tone levels. I don't think that is related but it was the only non-functioning thing about the product I encountered. It actually kept telling me that there was no mic,, but there is and it's quality is excellent on calls. I just can't get rid of the echo.

Is there a fix for this? I really don't want to take everything back apart and return this item. Crossing fingers it's a hidden setting or can be fixed with software update.

    Thanks!

Try to put the mic gain to about 45-50 and see if that will help. Please check the video here:

You can experiment with different microphone gain settings, but we do not recommend to go above 75.

Let us know if that will help. Thank you for using GROM VLine!

I am experiencing the same thing with my 2011 mdx using a VT2 kit. The call recipients say it’s almost unusable. I tried multiple locations for the mic and also tried to adjust the antenna strength to no avail.
