What is HD Radio® and GROM-HDR1 Dongle?

GROM-HDR1 is FM-HD receiver that provides access to the HD quality audio from radios stations. This device will deliver the decisive listening experience. With static-free, crystal-clear audio, HDR1 provides access to digital FM reception from more than 2,000 HD Radio stations and access HD2, HD3, and HD4 channels broadcast by any of those stations.
GROM-HDR1 is the add-on to the select GROM Android, iPhone, Bluetooth and USB car integration kits.

GROM HD Radio Dongle

With GROM-HDR1 you will get:
FM radio that sounds almost as good as a CD
No more static, pops, crackles or fades...and no subscription fees
Increased listening options with the access to sub-stations (HD2, HD3 and so on).

FM radio with near CD-quality sound

HD Radio Technology provides Digital SoundDigital technology allows a radio station to transmit more information in the same radio wave. This means that you will get higher quality sound, nearly as good as CDs, and definitely much better than the hollow sounds of old analog FM. The quality will also depend on your local stations. Note that GROM-HDR1 does not support AM, it supports FM only.

No static, pops, crackles, fades...and no subscription

HD Radio provides clear FM sound The digital signal is less vulnerable to reception problems. The radio tuner's digital processors eliminate the static, pops, hisses, and fades caused by interference. You hear only clear, clean, and rich sound. Should you lose the digital signal for some reason (obstructing terrain, nearing the edge of the broadcast area, etc.), HD Radio technology defaults back to analog mode, similar to the way non HD Radio receivers switch from stereo to mono mode when receiving a weak signal. And like analog radio, HD Radio is subscription-free.

Text Support and Sub Channels

This can take the form of album and artists name on your car stereo display, and station call letters. Many of the stations that have converted to HD radio in the United States have added a second (and some even a third) subchannel with different programming than the stations' main frequency. You tune in the subchannels with a tap of a toggle or a turn of the tuning knob; they appear in the display with a designation such as HD2. The HD Radio Technology

HD Radio technology is a digital radio standard developed by iBiquity Digital and recognized by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC). It works the same way that traditional analog transmits, except that the audio is digital formatted and transmitted as a continuous digital data stream in addition to the analog waveform signal. On the broadcast end, audio is digitally compressed and broadcast by a transmitter designed specifically for HD Radio broadcasting. Audio is also transmitted in its analog form, as usual. The radio station sends out the analog and digital signals on the same broadcast frequency, along with the signals for the text data. On the listener end, the signals are received and decoded. An HD Radio tuner picks up the digital radio transmission with its accompanying text. Older analog receivers continue to pick up the analog broadcasters. Listeners can continue to enjoy their favorite stations on today’s analog receivers as well as on the new digital HD Radio receivers. Currently, stations broadcasting in HD Radio are operating in a hybrid mode of both analog and digital in order reach both receivers. Eventually, as analog receivers are replaced by digital tuners, broadcasters may be able to turn off their analog signals and use that spectrum for more digital program channels or data applications.
