  • Mercedes Benz VLINE V2 Questions

I've had a VLINE V2 installed by a local approved installer in a 2013 Mercedes CLS550 that I've owned from new. My phone is a Pixel 9a running Android 15. I've connected the VLINE in the garage via the home wifi.

VLINE is updated, running VCore V2SC4.20.0.0 VBase 2.6 (L32).

I have to say I'm totally impressed in general by the VLINE. I have some questions though about the general operations. I have updated all the firmware

As I understand it the audio and phone works as follows.

    - MERCEDES Factory System.
    1. If Pixel bluetooth phone is paired with the Mercedes, VLINE can't control it, mute on incoming calls etc.
    2. FM Radio, CD Player, other media can be played but not control by the VLINE.
    3. Memory cards, USB attached drives cannot be accessed by the VLINE or Pixel 9a
    - VLINE
    1. Can access USB drives attached to VLINE USB
    2. Files can be played via VLINE local player app.
    3. If Pixel is bluetooth paired, phone apps on Android auto cannot access VLINE USB media, the VLINE can mute the local player if the phone is used.
    4. If Pixel is bluetooth paired, the VLINE cannot access the Internet etc.
    5. If VLINE is tethered via Wifi to Pixel or other wifi Internet source it can access the Internet for apps etc.
    - PIXEL 9a
    1. If paired via bluetooth to the VLINE, can play music via streaming apps and files local to the phone, ie downloaded.
    2. Can make phone calls, initiated via the VLINE or normal Pixel operations including voice

I think thats about it for assumptions, pleas let me know if I've got anything wrong.

First Question: How to set the clock on the VLINE to show the correct time top right of the VLINE display?

I've tried auto; tried changing the time to my timezone(Mountain) and setting it manually - whatever I do it works while the car is running, next time I use the car, the time is hours off. For example, it's currently 3pm here, the clock was set to 6:44am

This is annoying more than anything.

Did I post this in the wrong place or transgress some other rule?

        Hello,
Thank you for using GROM VLine VL2 system! You're in the right place for your questions!
        1. Your original posting is entirely correct; you nailed the functionality!
        2. To set up the clock, go to Android settings on the VLine and select System --> Date and Time.

How does the VLINE maintain the clock time when the car is powered off?
Does it have an internal battery (CMOS?) for the clock?

If no then surely the clock needs to be manually set EVERY time the VLINE is used if it does NOT have its own Internet connection.
If yes, it has a battery did this have to be enabled during install?

Mine is going back in next week to have the correct touch screen installed, if they need to do something to enable the battery then I'd like to be able to tell them.

          Thanks!

Well that didn't go well. The touch screen broke while they were re-installing the dashboard and they could only suggest they call your tech support to find out why the clock isn't being maintained.

It would be great if someone could provide a description of how the time clock in the grom V2 should be maintained. FYI. I often don't use the car for 24+ hours. The Mercedes maintains it's own clock.

As long as the VL2 is connected to the vehicle and vehicle is having the battery connected, the clock should run normally.
Do you disconnect the battery when the clock drift happens ?
