  • Acoustic feedback (back coupling) while calling

    Hey folks,
since I have installed theVLINEV2 in my SAAB 9-5 NG everyone who calls me tells me they can hear themselves with a little delay what is very annoying. Today I called my wife while she was driving in the SAAB and it is really bad. Inside the car everything sounds quite normal. Using the supplied GROM microphone which I installed next to the rearview mirror.
Any ideas what could cause this problem?

    Hello,
You need to adjust the microphone gain. If you are using the GROM-supplied microphone, the best position is around 45. To adjust the gain - while in the VLine user interface, tap on the sandwich menu at the top left-hand corner. Then scroll down to the Microphone Gain settings.
    Here is how to:

Adjust it to your liking, but 45 is the best setting for aftermarket microphones, according to our recommendations.

      Hey Heath,

      thanks for your support!
I tried to do the „auto“ calibration as shown in the video but it gives me the following message after one peep:
      „music tone is not sensed“
do I need to turn the volume up even louder than it already is? Click image for larger version

        Hello Christofson,

The "Automatic Microphone Adjustment" might not always work well at 25% depending on multiple variables in the vehicle, including cabin size/volume and audio system configurations. Normally I would suggest putting the volume around 25% and slowly working up to 50% if it's not being sensed. If the signal is still not being sensed via the "Automatic Microphone Adjustment" at 50%, there might be an issue with the microphone itself.

Can you contact us via Ticket so we can follow up with you? We might need to send you a replacement microphone or look into retaining your OEM Saab Microphone.

          Hi folks,
received the new microphone and the new harness - delivery worked flawless, thanks a lot.
I replaced the harness and I can now use the OEM microphone which is great - unfortunately the same problem still appears.
Callers hear themselves (with a slight delay) twice - like an echo.
i still have two ideas (not tried yet) but this would be just a temporary fix for me:
          - use wired car play/android auto (instead of wireless)
          - turn off the Harman/Kardon sound processing

any other idea what could cause this problem?

btw: the auto volume leveling of the OEM microphone works like a charm now.

          thanks a lot,
          Chris

Have you tried adjusting the microphone gain manually? Please set it to 45 and give it a try.

I have tried it now with a lot of different gains, 45 and more and of course less, doesn't fix the problem. I have tried it with the new microphone from GROM, with the new harness to ingtegrate the OEM microphone, nothing helps.
Caller does hear me and I can hear the person who's calling too pretty clear but caller always hears the echo. I can't hear any echo at all in the car.
Tried it via bluetooth and wired, switched on and off the audio processing, problem still occurs.
No matter if iphone or android.

Absolutely clueless what I should try next.
