So I encounter this problem quite often and was wondering if other Toyota folks are experiencing this issue. I have a Toyota Highlander 2017 with the VL2 system. What appears to happen is that sometimes once I'm within CarPlay, there is no audio. I have discovered that the quick solution is to disconnect and reconnect Bluetooth. I manage to create a shortcut on the GROM interface that gives me a quick access to the BT menu. Wondering if this is some sort of race condition or conflict between the Toyota BT and VL2 battling for control of audio? I have updated both the firmware and VL2 software up to the latest but this problem seems to still be persistent. Thanks!
