Voice commands not working in Android auto

Recently android auto has stopped accepting voice commands. If I press the mic button on the screen or hold the button on my wheel android auto will ding and the usual message will appear at the bottom of the screen but it then quickly disappears before I get a chance to speak.


I have tried clearing cache/data, removing and re-adding the vline unit to android auto, restarting the whole unit and nothing seems to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For anyone else that might have this issue, if you have a Samsung phone and use driving mode make sure that both the Google and Assistant apps are in the list of allowed apps while driving.

I'm not sure why this is now required when it wasn't before but it resolved the issue for me.
