  • Wired Android Auto quits randomly and occasionally VLine disconnects from car radio

I've had an ongoing problem that has been recurring regularly. This problem surfaces in two types of disconnect:

    1. Android Auto randomly disconnects from the phone, and the vline system exits/crashes to the home screen. Occasionally the AA application will automatically reconnect and start up again after a few seconds, but not always. When it fails to reconnect, unplugging and reconnecting the phone will sometimes cause AA to start back up. Other times it will not, and a full restart through Settings will be required to get VLine to reconnect to the device. This happens multiple times a week and sometimes multiple times in a day - especially on long car trips. It seems that unplugging and reconnecting the VLine unit reduces the chances of this happening, but not for long.

    2. Occasionally the "Audio Off" message will randomly appear on the screen and the audio will disconnect. When this happens the touchscreen is also unresponsive, so a software reboot is not possible. The only solution is to unplug the Vline unit in the glove box and reconnect it. Often I'll also have to turn the car off and back on to get the infotainment unit to detect the Vline unit over USB and start up.

Both of these issues have been occurring for months, and have persisted across cables and even phones. I have even seen the same issues with Carplay and an iPhone.

I have also tried a firmware update over wifi, but was not able to successfully apply the update. At this point I'm starting to regret my purchase as I'm not able to enjoy it without one of these issues happening - even on a short 15min drive.

You need to ensure that you updated the system to the latest available software and firmware. here is how to:

After update, you can also reboot the system, restart your Android smartphone and reconnect to the VLine system again. Here are two more videos that can help:
    1. How to reboot the system:

    2. How to reconnect the Android Auto

Also check the date and time on your VLine VL2 system. Go to Settings --> About Device --> date and time
Ensure date and time are correct on your system.

The other option would be to use Android Auto wired (via USB). For this, ensure you use high quality cable that is no longer than 3 ft.
